Geometer’s Sketchpad
Assignment:
Objective: Plotting
points and determining the coordinates of those points using Geometer’s
Sketchpad.
Instructions:
Part 1: 1. Open Geometer’s Sketchpad and set up a
grid ( Graph ð Show Grid )
2. Go to the website: http://fcmail.st-clair.net/~mr.majeski/gsppics.htm
3. Open the picture of the maple leaf.
4. Right click on the picture of the maple
leaf and chose copy.
5. Go back into Geometer’s Sketchpad.
6. Paste the picture into the GSP ( Edit ð Paste Picture )
7. Centre the picture as best you can
around the origin.
Note: Origin is the intersection of the x-axis and
y-axis.
8. Using
the Point tool, plot 8 points around
the perimeter ( outside ) of your picture.
9. Select one of the points you just
plotted. ( Using the selection tool )
10. Determine the coordinates of the point. ( Measure ð Coordinates )
11. Repeat this until you have the coordinates of all 8 points.
12. Using the text tool, put your name on the page.
13. Print this off and hand it in to your teacher.
Part 2: 1. Start a new sketch and set up a grid.
2. Choose a different picture from the website:
http://fcmail.st-clair.net/~mr.majeski/gsppics.htm
3. Copy and paste this picture into GSP.
4. Centre the picture as best you can around the origin.
5. Using the text tool, put your name on the page and print the page.
6. Plot 8 points by hand and determine the coordinates by hand. You can write on the page.
7. When you are finished, hand in to your
teacher.
